Yay Movies

First and foremost, meet my new sneakers. Sweet.

UP!finally out at blockbuster. They were sold out but because I am BFF with the staff - theygave me the copy that was playing in the store! Being a loser with no social life has its
perks. This is such a wonderful movie in every aspect. Truly beautiful in how it depicts life, how it passes by, how the boring parts are sometimes best ones, and the relationship between two unlikely friends who help each other out. LOVE LOVE LOVE. see it. or buy it.

My Life in Ruins - cute. nothing special. a couple of cringe-worthy moments. felt like a mini tour lesson of Greece. eh - pass.

After not going to the movies for SO LONG. I saw two! That means I had friends to go watch them with - a fine situation indeed.

2012- SICK EFFECTS. Watching LA crumble to ash was oddly satisfying and the wicked tsunami waves that pummel the earth as we know are crazy real. Clocking in at 2 hrs and 40 min, I didn't make it through whole movie without peeing. Note - my seat was second row center. However, being such a long movie I was just one of the many people who couldn't make it through without using the loo. Everyone would get up to go during weak emotional scenes - attempting to make the plot lines important. While things were blowing up, everyone was seated. Plot holes galore aside, a very entertaining film!

Precious - not the movie to watch right before going to acting class where we study comedy. This movie is so intense. All the acting was amazing. Mo'nique's performance gave me chills. Mariah Carey and Paula Patton were amazing as well. And that Precious - she was heartbreakingly good. Only see this if you can go home afterward and drink a bottle of wine and give thanks to all the wonderful things you have in your life. This story is haunting and I can't stop thinking about it. Thank God its fiction.

Last week was rough and nothing exciting to speak about. The audition I went on for a new pilot went awesome but then they decided to go younger with the role and hire a REAL 13 year old. Balls.

Two days of fire alarm testing ripped me from my rem cycle at around 830am on wednesday and thursday. For two hours the fire alarm blared. It sucked and put me a bad mood. I was too tired actually get up so I put in ear plugs and pulled the covers over my heading cursing my apartment building. On Wednesday, the alarm was blaring right in my bedroom and walking to the bathroom in my t-shirt and underwear, didn't hear the knock on my door and the fireman guy checking the system enter my apartment. Awkward, looking back sure, but I was in that I just woke up haze where I wasn't ready to comprehend what was going on. Half-open eyed hellos followed. Yes - the alarm is working just fine. My migraine thanks you. Now go die a slow painful death. That sounds really harsh but you know how I am in the morning. blech.

On Saturday night, I had low expectations but it turned out to so nice. I got my monthly massage which was AMAZING and then went to Barnes and Noble to read up on writing book query letters (mine is done now - now I research agents and send it out to those who I think may be interested). I also picked up Stephen King's new 20lb book. Can't wait to start that bady boy. I then went out to a late dinner to my fave asian restaurant in Burbank with my closest friend from work. So nice! Didn't even change out of my target sweatpants or put on make up. Such a nice night walking around and getting dessert. Listen to this dessert and tell me you aren't having an Aha! moment- pumpkin ice cream with graham crumbs on top with ghiradelli chocolate chips. I wanted whip cream but they didn't have any. Is it thanksgiving yet? ONE WEEK UNTIL HOME!!!

Sunday - SKINS - you pulled that game outta your ass! Yea! Next week it's washington/dallas. 10am. going to a bar. excited! would a wild card be too much to hope for? whatever, you know you're thinking it too!
I also half watched The Game Plan - disney movie with dwayne johnson and the most adorable little girl. awful. haha but I wasn't expecting anything more than a happy ending, which I got - so alls well.

Monday - did you see Sarah Palin on Oprah? Ugh. Blah. Not reading her book. It was written by very, very, very, good PR people. She's as obnoxious as Jon Gosselin. GO AWAY!
Two and Half Men - funniest episode I have seen in a LONG time.
Finally got cold enough to turn the heat on. Yay cold weather :)

Monday's my Funday

How freakin cute are my new slippers? Target, of course. My others - my beloved black old grannie slippers - well the bottom literally fell out. Sad. I still haven't thrown them out. I have separation issues. It's been a pretty dull week. Up until Saturday night. I got in trouble at work and received what I recall as my 5th write up (I'm not going to bother explaining why because you'll just shake your head and say "thats so stupid") Anyhoo, I was inspired to apply to about 3 jobs that night when I was home and already have an interview lined up with a new restaurant on Wednesday. Fingers are crossed. By the way - Saturday Night Live was SO funny that night. Taylor Swift was host and performer. The girl had zero comedic timing (but her opening monologue was wonderfully awesome) but overall, the show was so funny! yea SNL!
Okay, so that's still really dull. I'm sorry I got nothin.

Monday - my favorite day of the week! Had an audition where I got to do my Beyonce single ladies dance. SO FUN. and then my acting class was beyond hilarious. I laughed until I cried.

Here are some random things I learned this week:

You can't make Sloppy joe's with 4% fat ground beef. It's just lame and stupid. (it was on sale)

Mad Men Season 2 is really great.

Ricky Gervais is hosting the Golden Globes. AWESOME CHOICE! Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are co-hosting the Oscars. SOLID CHOICE.

The NFC East is turning into poop.

I think I am going to be spending Christmas and New Year's alone and that's kinda depressing. Let's work on that. Anybody?

If you have an I-phone. You can set tv shows to record to your DVR from your phone. SWOON.

I have a new nickname: West Coast Bicks. Thankyou Jerold Solomon. I'll add it to the list of Bicks monikers.

Merry Christmas?

Hey! It's November! And apparently that means it's Christmas time. Santa and his reindeer on my diet coke and gingerbread scented things everywhere! Candy cane Hershey kisses and the fudge covered oreos are out. It's holiday madness. I feel like next week Valentine's day candy will start being sold. Either way - that means THANKSGIVING is soon. and going HOME is soon. 22 days until Bicks' family reunion at Mellow Yellow.

I have taken a break from watching tv on DVD mainly because the shows I want to see are not available right now. I can't not start a new show from seasons one disc one. I'm a little OCD like that. I rented the adorably stupid The Proposal. Sandra Bullock, well, I love her in everything and Ryan Reynolds is one fine male specimen. There are a number of plot holes - and overall, it's a bit ridiculous - but I loved it :)
I finished reading such a deliciously good book. Suspenseful and hard to put down. It's the number one paperback right now and his most recent book - the girl who played with fire - is the number one hardback - and next on my list to read! The author was a journalist who died and a trio of his manuscripts were discovered posthumously. The third novel has yet to be released. READ THIS BOOK!
Oh and the movie I was dying to see in theatres but is now on DVD that anyone who lives a life based on auditions must see. Every Little Step is the documentary on the auditions for the revival of A Chorus Line on Broadway and it is phenomenal. Amazing. I cried. I sang. It really pulled at my heart strings. So wonderful. I honestly can't say enough about this movie. It's grand.
Ah yes, Halloween. I was Tinkerbell. I got to wear wings and my hair down to work. But it was so dead (cuz everyone is out partying or handing out candy or whatever cool people do on Halloween) that I just jumped around pretending to fly and telling people to clap their hands and think happy thoughts. haha. Contest results still to come. But I think I have it in the bag.
Out of nowhere I went on a slew of auditions in a day and half. It was a lot all once for when it rains it pours, but in the end, or so far - nothing has gone further. Very frustrating and am left in post-audition depression. However, I feel for the most part that I did well at each one of them. One of the auditions was for a guest spot on the Mentalist and while I got great feedback was told I looked to young. The character was 16. I give up on trying to figure out what my age range is. Another one of the auditions was a Producer's call way down in Torrance. That's about an hour away sans traffic. My GPS didnt recognize the address and for the first time in a long time had to navigate with mere directions on paper. I couldn't even listen to the radio I was concentrating so hard. When I got close to the location, I asked the UPS man for directions. If anyone knows where to go - Brown knows the way!

Right now the elevator in my building is broken. It's been about 5 days. I don't have a problem taking the stairs, my first apt in NYC was on the top of 6 story building - but the only way to get to your car in the garage is by elevator. So i have to walk to the other side of the the building to get on the elevator to walk to the other side of the parking lot. Not fun. And anyone who has been in my building knows how slow the elevators are in the first place.

Random thoughts:
Every time I see Jon or Kate on tv I want to projectile vomit. Mostly cuz of Jon.

I knew the yankees would blow game 5. Wednesday - game on in nyc. LETS GO!

Grey's Anatomy - the only reason I keep watching is due to a long addiction that I can't seem to quit. Last week's show just sucked. I am not caring for the character's anymore. This is sad.
Flash Forward has taken a nosedive into bad tv territory as well. That's a shame.
V- the new show on Abc - looks horrible.

I want to go see This Is It in theatres. Might make a solo trip.

Thank you so much for all the love and support for my prime time Tv debut on Caslte! It was unexpected and I feel so loved and motived to keeping going. I'm so lucky to have such wonderful people in my life! If only you all lived closer!

LA Idiots

haha. that's a really big picture of the True Blood DvD. The first season is finally trickling back into Blockbuster and I'm so loving this show! I guess I've finally found my vampire obsession. Such a cool premise in which vampires are now allowed to live openly among people because of the invention of "tru blood" - a synthetic blood they can drink in lieu of human blood to stay alive. But people are so used to being racist towards them, and there are always bad vampires ruining it for the good ones. love, drama, sex, and murder ensues. Oh, one day I will be able to afford HBO! Until then, I'll just be a season behind.

YANKEES ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!!

Tomorrow night, my Castle episode airs. I reached an all new level of lame by creating a facebook event for it. I regret doing that - but it's already out there. Don't judge me. I had too much time on my hands this weekend. Im saving up for an I-phone. Ergo going out after work is not in the cards. I want to be able to buy one before Thanksgiving so I can watch movies, listen to music, surf the web, all on that little piece of 3g magic.

I went to 3 different Halloween stores/wig places looking for an Ellen Degenerus wig for my costume. I was shocked that nobody knew who ellen was. "You want to be who? Who's that?"- one store even had to google her. I mean I shouldn't even have to use her last name. It's ELLEN! Ugh - LA people never cease to amaze me in how inept they can be. I have been forced to nix the Ellen costume due to only being able to find Rod Stewart type or pixie Sound of Music Wigs being the only ones to come close. There's a $50 prize for the best costume at work and of course, I'm working that saturday night so I need something. I'm thinking Tinkerbell. Who doesn't love tink? The tink you clap for to come back to life in the original movie. yea.

Did I mention I went to a taping of Dancing with the Stars last week? That show is absolutely ridiculous. Who watches this? This was the first time I ever watched it and it was painful for me. It was cool to see a live taping of a tv show and the sexy professional dancers - but other than seeing Ozzy Osbourne and Latoya Jackson in the audience - I couldn't wait to get out! They ended the show with a group performance of the hustle. eh yea.

Speaking of D-list celebrities, I served Pete Rose the other day at work. Weird, right?

Not much going on right now - the usual frustration and depressing mornings ensue. ya know, when you just don't wanna get our of bed cuz your just going to do the daily grind then make your way to a job you loathe? Yea - trying to get out of that dirty cycle. Let's hope that's happens sooner than later.

YANKEES ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!!

I'll close with a very odd story, very much on the theme of stupid people. I was checking out of target this evening and a woman in line looked at my purchases and asked if I was buying stuff for my daughter.. I'm sorry WHAT? People usually ask where MY mother is.. or if I am 12 - wtf. Am I buying things for my daughter? "Uhhh - NO." Holy Moses. Shivers. Yikes. My daugher?! I guess I'm still not over it.

Disneyland with Soulsister

I realize it's been awhile since I've posted but I went to Disneyland last weekend and had a complete blast. Enjoy the photo montage!
We got mickey mouse face paint.
This is a caramel/white chocolate covered apple. The ears are marshmellows. This souvenir no longer exists.
What else do you eat at the happiest place on earth besides ice cream sundaes for dinner? I will never forget that sundae ( and no I didn't share - call me a bitch whatever, get your own!) It was two huge scoops vanilla ice cream topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, chocolate chips and a cherry accompanied by not one - but TWO warm chocolate chip cookies. I die happy.
Disneyland was pimped out Halloween style in the most un-scary was possible. Space mountain had ghouls and the fireworks display had spooky music. The Phantasmic show included all the evil disney characters and Jack Skellington was everywhere. So was Buzz Lightyear and Woody (toy story 3 is coming out soon in case you're living under a rock!)
We rode almost every ride. From flying over london on the Peter Pan ride to bobsledding on the matterhorn to getting drenched on splash mountain. The night before we got smashed (it was her friend's 30th bday) and went dancin until 3am. But we got up early and had breakfast of champions at IHOP (2x2x2!) and was at the park at 1045am. We left at 1230am. The next day my feet were so swollen. My knees ached. I drove home and took a nice 3 hour nap. Check out this beeramyd!!
I wish Caitlin and I lived in the same city. She is such quality people that the following week was tough being surrounded again by LA weirdos. I miss all my friends a lot and I think about you guys all the time. Come visit! However, I have zero desire to hit up Disneyland again anytime soon (if I see another fat family in fanny packs...) and LA is booboo so - I need to make some money and come visit you!

Crap Sandwich

Yup, that's pretty much what I've been eating the past few weeks. Crap. It just keeps piling on. Job? Nothing to even apply to. Auditions - what are those again? Medical bills crazy high. Other bills filling up my mailbox. But Alas! What did I find in my mailbox on Saturday? A package! from my soulsister in san fransisco! Check out these sexy halloween knickers!
I received two Halloween cards (one from soulsister and one from the real sister). Take a close look at these cards. Bathroom humor and butt/boobie (heehee boobie is such a funny word) jokes. These girls know what I like!
I got a flu shot today because I had to go to the doctor to get a refill for my pills. Yup - another freakin $30 co-pay just to get simple refill. HEALTHCARE SUCKS. Now my arm is sore.

Here's the real kicker - my tv is broken. My precious HD DVR is busted up and I can't watch tv. If you know me at all - you realize how catastrophic this is for me. They are coming to replace the box and fix my signal Wednesday between 9am -1pm. Should be a great day. Who doesn't love waiting for those maintenance people? And yes, that does mean all the shows/movies I have saved and haven't watched yet will be lost forever.

I'll end this post because I have nothing nice to say about anything at the moment. go yankees.

October - so far so bad!

Check out my super cute outfit. Dress is from Target. Today was the first day it felt like Autumn. Even needed a sweater under my jean jacket which was cool because it completed the whole vibe with the dress. It felt good not wearing work clothes for once. I was on my to see a play that my friend from acting class was in called Wonder of the World. She was fantastic in it. About 5 other girls from my class came too. I love my Monday night ladies. I still really love those boots too.
The theatre was so cute. The show takes place in Niagra Falls so as you entered the theatre - they took pics of everyone in raincoats (they told me - look like your cold!) and then after the show we all got free postcard photos of ourselves. Great idea huh? So you can mail it to people saying "I had such a wonderful time at the show! - you should go!" There was even free snacks at intermission. Here's a photo of the photo.

Alas, my car is fixed. I got it back on Saturday looking all shiny and new. I am so focused on the road that I actually missed my exit on the way to work. Frustrating. Not much has happened this week. No auditions - nothing exciting. My paper didn't come on Monday, so I took the opportunity to pick up the NYTimes. Oh, how I have missed Lady Grey. I was most happy to see I haven't lost my touch with the Will Shortz crosswords.
I finished a few books this week. I finally finished The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. How freakin depressing that was. My God, was it a downer. It was very slow going in the beginning because it written in a southern cockney when people are talking but once I got the
hang of it - I was able to enjoy it. If you feel like your life is pretty shitty, read this American classic because the lives of the families in this book are a million times worse. The Great Depression really isn't that fun to read about.
Afterward, I needed to read something totally mindless and Schooled definitely filled those shoes. There's good chick lit and there's bad chick lit. This book was a form of the latter. About a teacher at an elite private school in NYC and the world of tutoring the uber rich kids. Sad and pathetic because there is a ring of truth to how these tutors are paid exorbitant amounts of money to do these kids' homework so they can get into these Ivy league schools where they continue to pay tutors to do their work. But as a whole - it was tirelessly predictable and was void of any laugh out loud moments. Pass.

So let's talk tv. Started watching Flash Forward. Joseph Fiennes is fox and the show is quite interesting. The premise: a huge catastrophe takes place - the entire world blacks out for 2 min and 17 seconds and each person has a glimpse of their life 6 months into the future. It's very interesting and the story lines are well done - weaving in and out of many people's lives including the FBI trying to figure out what the hell happened.
Other new shows: Hank - bad. It's Frasier with a family in the suburbs and it's bad.
The Middle - Debra Romano (or patricia heaton from Raymond) with a new family in the middle of nowhere. bad.
There was no new Top Chef this week - WHY?
I am cracking down on the amount of shows I am dvr'ing. I had almost no space left! I went ahead and deleted all the Melrose Place episodes. I just can't bring myself to watch any of it knowing Ashlee Simpson is on it. Plus, I don't think I will be auditioning for it any time soon.
I swore I wouldn't watch the Real World/Road Rule challenge but it was on at the gym - and they brought back all the old timers.. my favorite crazy bitches! haha so mindless. so perfect for after work.
Speaking of work - I am actively looking for a new restaurant to work at - I interviewed for a new place this weekend but I am pretty sure I blew it on the impromptu written test we had to take. Don't really feel like getting into it though. I just know I am not happy - and I need a change.
